Never Lose a School Uniform Again 🎒
If you've ever sent your little one off to school only to have their favourite jumper disappear into the lost property abyss — you're not alone! Iron-on name labels are one of the easiest and most reliable ways to keep track of your child's belongings. And the best part? They take just a minute to apply.
Here's our simple step-by-step guide to getting them on perfectly, every time.
What You'll Need
- Your Lil' Cozy Kids Iron-On Name Labels
- A household iron (no steam iron needed!)
- A hard, flat surface (an ironing board or table works great)
- A thin cotton cloth, butter paper or pressing cloth (optional but helpful)
Step-by-Step: How to Apply Iron-On Name Labels
Step 1: Prep the Fabric
Make sure the garment is clean, dry, and free of wrinkles. Iron out any creases first — a smooth surface helps the label bond properly. Avoid applying labels to waterproof, nylon, or heavily textured fabrics, as these don't hold iron-on labels as well.
Step 2: Position the Label
Place the label face-up on the inside of the collar, waistband, or care label area. These spots are easy to check and less likely to peel from friction. For smaller items like socks, the inside of the cuff works well.
Step 3: Set Your Iron
Set your iron to a medium-high heat (cotton setting) with no steam. Steam can prevent the adhesive from bonding properly, so make sure the steam function is switched off.
Step 4: Press Firmly
Place a thin cloth over the label (to protect both the label and the fabric), then press the iron down firmly for 10–15 seconds. Don't slide the iron — just press and hold. Apply firm, even pressure.
Step 5: Let It Cool
Lift the iron and allow the label to cool completely before touching it. This is important — the adhesive sets as it cools, so resist the urge to peel or check it straight away!
Step 6: Check the Bond
Once cool, gently try to lift a corner of the label. If it feels secure, you're done! If any edges are lifting, repeat the pressing process for another 5–10 seconds.
Tips for Long-Lasting Labels
- ✅ Always wash labelled items inside-out on a gentle cycle
- ✅ Avoid tumble drying on high heat — air dry or use a low setting
- ✅ Don't dry clean items with iron-on labels
- ✅ Re-press the label if edges start to lift after washing
Which Fabrics Work Best?
Iron-on labels bond best to cotton, polyester blends, and denim. They work well on school uniforms, t-shirts, jumpers, and trousers. For items like lunchboxes, water bottles, and stationery, we recommend these Waterproof Photo Name Stickers instead — they're designed to stick to hard surfaces and are fully waterproof.
